Ask Asphalt and the playbook

A live snapshot of the business with an AI chat for the owners, and written rules that let people decide without asking.

Ask Asphalt

Ask Asphalt is for the owners and managers: in a new company, the CEO, both VPs and the Controller ("Ask Asphalt about the business").

It shows a live snapshot: the open pipeline, wins in the last 30 days, cash collected this month, money owed to you, bills due in 7 days, crew days this week and tasks past due. Each person sees only the numbers their role can see. The snapshot in words shows exactly what the AI reads.

Ask a question, such as "Which invoices are overdue?" or "What is scheduled this week?", and it answers from that snapshot.

  • The chat needs an AI connection. Without it the snapshot still works. See Connections.
  • Up to 6 questions a minute per person, each up to 4,000 characters.
  • Conversations are private to the person who had them: even the CEO can't read another person's.
  • Nothing typed in the chat changes a record.

The playbook

Playbook holds the owner's decision rules, so people can decide without waiting for approval. For example: if the customer asks for this, you may do that, up to this amount; otherwise ask.

A rule has a situation, the rule itself, the most someone may decide on their own (blank means no limit), and which roles may decide without asking (none means "Ask first"). Rules are grouped by situation and can be searched.

  • Every default role can read the playbook and log decisions. The CEO and both VPs can write and edit rules.
  • Rules are never deleted, only turned off, so past decisions keep their link.
  • Log a decision records what you decided and under which rule (or none). The What did I decide tab lists them. A logged decision can't be changed afterwards.
