A tour of the screen

The sidebar and its five groups, the top bar, light and dark, and which page you land on.

The sidebar

The sidebar lists the pages in five groups. You only see the pages your role can open, and a group with nothing for you disappears. A number next to a page counts what is waiting, for example your tasks that are overdue or due today.

The top bar

  • The name of the page you are on.
  • A search box for customers, addresses and phone numbers. For people who may open Customers it suggests up to five customers as you type, each opening its profile, with "All customers matching ..." last. On Pipelines it filters the board as you type; elsewhere, Enter searches on Pipelines (or on Customers, for someone who can't open Pipelines).
  • + New call opens the phone-call form, when you can open Intake.
  • The account menu, with your name, email, role and company: Switch company (only if you belong to more than one), My profile, Two-factor sign-in, Signed-in devices, Alerts on this phone (on a phone that supports it), Change password and Sign out.
  • Every tab of the same browser is one sign-in: sign out in one tab and the other tabs land on the sign-in page too, and when somebody else signs in in one tab, the other tabs show them, never the person before.

Light and dark

Asphalt OS follows your device: dark when your computer or phone is set to dark, light when it is set to light. The dark look is a near-black page with charcoal panels; the light look is a white page with pale grey panels. The sidebar stays dark in both.

Yellow marks the main thing to do on a page (such as + New call), the tab you are on, and warnings. Green means fine, red means a problem, and blue is information and links.

Where you land

People who run the company (those who can see everyone's tasks or the reports) land on the Dashboard. Everyone else lands on My day: their bids, the leads waiting on them, their tasks and their visits today. See Today, My day and tasks.

Someone who joined by invite fills in My profile first; nothing else opens until it is saved.

My profile

My profile in the account menu is yours to keep up to date:

  • Your picture (PNG, JPG or WebP up to 2 MB), your full name and the first name people call you.
  • Your mobile phone (required), your work phone, and an emergency contact (a name and a phone, required). Managers see these; everyone else sees only your name and picture.
  • How alerts reach you: in the app only, by text, by email, or both; which phone gets the texts; quiet hours (9 PM to 7 AM to start) when no text is sent, with Urgent alerts anyway so a time-limit alarm about your own work still gets through.
  • An optional Social Security number, stored encrypted. You can replace or remove it but never read it back; only the last four digits show that it is on file. See Your company's data.
  • Your account activity: sign-ins from new devices, password and two-factor changes, trusted devices and lockouts on your own account, whatever your role.

Alerts to you (a task, a mention, a reminder) go out the way you chose here. They never carry a customer's words or a price you couldn't see in the app: the text or email holds a short line and a link into the app.

Pages you can't open

If you follow a link to a page your role can't open, Asphalt OS tells you (for example "The Estimator role can't open Reports") and takes you to your first page. If you need it, ask someone who manages people for an exception.
